Prayer, Grace
and Becoming Like Jesus
~ Eric Shaw
If God is so “big” and I am so “small” and
he is the Potter and I am the clay, what difference does
it make whether or not I pray? If God loves me more than
I love myself, won’t he do what is best for me whether
or not I pray? Especially in a world where we are crushed
for time, prayer can seem like it is just something else
to schedule into the day. Even our communication with those
we love becomes more and more a lot of cryptic messages:
e-mail, text messages, “instant messages” and
so forth. Contemplation together happens less and less it
seems. Is it any wonder we question time for prayer? The
apostle Paul says, “I urge that supplications, prayers,
intercessions, and thanksgivings be made . . .” (1
Timothy 2:1).
