An Invitation
to a Meal with Jesus

Have you ever thought that the “Last Supper” was
also the “first supper?” Jesus had the meal with
his disciples before he was arrested and crucified. As they
ate the meal, he said, “Do this in remembrance of me” (Luke
22:19). How the disciples must have remembered their times
with Jesus as they continued on in his ministry following
the resurrection and ascension of Jesus. It brought great
encouragement in difficult times. As we are invited again
and again to a meal with Jesus in the form of communion we
would do well to remember not only his life and death but
also his resurrection and presence with us. When we take
the bread and the wine into our hands it is good to remember
that Jesus is the one who invites us to this meal, he is
the host, and his presence is there with us.
