The
Hour of Incense

Zacharias, the priest, was offering prayers
at “The Hour of Incense” when the angel Gabriel
announced the birth of John the Baptist. As he and the people
prayed for salvation to come to Israel, the forerunner of
the Messiah was announced. Like Zacharias, all Christians
are called to be priests, and to make intercessory prayer
that will birth the Kingdom of God into the community around
us. As priests, we have the ability to assist God in bringing
life where there is death, and this comes through believing
prayer (Luke 1:5-14).
