Following
Jesus
~Richard
Lane
In Luke’s gospel account, Jesus boards
Peter’s boat and says to him, “Go into the deep
water and lay down your nets for a catch.” Peter has
a miraculous catch of fish after he allows Jesus to become
captain of his ship and trusts him enough to obey him in
spite of the odds. Peter then leaves his life of fishing
to follow Jesus. For Christians, following Jesus involves
letting him be “master of our ship” – putting
him at the center of our lives rather than having ourselves
at the center. It also means trusting Jesus enough to obey
him in spite of circumstances or earthly limitations. (Luke
5:1-11)
