Identity
and Power Struggles
Evelyne Burkhard
How can we have an identity in this world and yet be called
to be Christ-centered? We begin our Christian journey with
a damaged identity and distorted perceptions when we have
not dealt with our past problems. This condition does not
allow us to have a healthy relationship with God, ourselves,
or others. Therefore, we all need healing and restoration.
It is a bit different journey for each of us, but it is a
journey that must occur.
Evelyne addresses these issues and offers excellent insights
into the power of forgiveness from her experiences as a nurse
in Cambodia following Pol Pot's massacre. She also worked
in Rwanda following the horrendous civil war between the Hutus
and Tutsis where 800,000 people were killed in 100 days. She
is a nurse and has a Masters in Reconciliation as well as
an M-Div. Working overseas with the International Committee
of the Red Cross and World Vision International in countries
of war and armed conflicts such as Chad, Uganda, Rwanda, Lebanon
and Cambodia, she has first hand experience of some of the
issues generated by violence.
