| Introduction to
Philippians
~ Eric Shaw
Paul sends a letter of rejoicing to the Philippians in response
to their concern and kindness. He remembers them joyfully
in prayer (1:4) and rejoices at the proclamation of the gospel
(1:18). Paul identifies his ministry as “progress and
joy in faith” (1:25). He challenges the Philippians
to make him joyful by getting along with one another (2:2).
He rejoices in their concern for him (4:10) and encourages
them to even rejoice for no reason at all (3:1; 4:4). Even
as Paul endures hardship and opposition, he expresses joy.
This is the fruit of a life lived in relationship with Jesus – a
life formed in Christ. [Focus on Philippians 1:1-2]
