Challenging
the Tyranny of Perfection
~ Katherine Carter
As children, we were virtually unaware it was taking root
in our lives. As adults, we see it driving many and defeating
countless others. The spirit of perfectionism is an unforgiving,
ungracious tyrant, threatening to distort our view of ourselves,
others and God and reduce our lives to glorified fear and
pain management.
Did God really intend for perfectionism to rule our lives?
If not, how are we to make sense of Jesus' exhortation to
"be perfect" as our "Father in Heaven is perfect"
(Matthew 5:48)? These answers become clear as we examine Scripture's
instruction about the law and priesthood that we are now under.
Join us as we look to Scripture for clarity on God's true
expectations of His children and His plans for sanctifying
us by His Spirit. In these we will find the Lord's answer
to conquering the spirit of perfectionism in our lives.
